Специальный выпуск по теме "Heterostructured Materials and Advanced Processing"
Development of superior materials and advanced materials processing technologies is always at the forefront of Materials Science. One of the successful approaches to improve the properties of materials focuses on tailoring heterostructures combining different materials, microstructures, phases etc. The development of severe plastic deformation methods, other deformation processing technologies such as asymmetric rolling, and advanced thermal treatments made it possible to obtain materials with desired combinations of microstructures and texture. Simultaneous use of the concepts of advanced processing and heterostructured materials allows one to obtain a synergic effect resulting in an enhancement of both the ductility and strength of materials. In practice, great successes are achieved in the development of engineering metals and composite materials. The advanced processing technologies (to name only a few, superplastic forming, additive technologies etc.) allow for the fabrication of structures and articles, which were not possible earlier.
To outline at least a few of such great successes, in this Special Issue we have collected a dozen of papers devoted to different aspects of composite and laminated materials, materials with gradient microstructures and their unique properties, advanced materials processing technologies such as severe plastic deformation, 3D printing of metals and alloys, non-traditional methods of metal forming, etc.
As the editors of this special edition of Letters on Materials, we are sincerely grateful to all authors who have contributed papers to this special issue. Their cooperation and willingness have made the publication of this volume possible. Although all papers in this issue were invited, they were reviewed according to the standards of the journal. Therefore, the editors wish also to thank all the reviewers who have contributed to improvements in the papers.

The coarse-grained (CG) materials typically exhibit excellent ductility but poor strength. By contrast, the ultrafine-grained (UFG) or nanocrystalline (NC) materials typically exhibit high strength but poor ductility. However, in this work, the gradient-grained structure materials have superior combination of high strength and good ductility.

Heterogeneous lamella structured Al-5083 with superior combinations of strength and ductility have been fabricated with different annealing conditions. Hetero-deformation induced (HDI) hardening is an important reason for the excellent combinations of strength and ductility and precipitation hardening is one important component of HDI hardening

HPT processed sample have heterogeneous, which is graded along radial direction. It allows measurement of mechanical properties, such as hardness, and physical properties, such as electrical resistivity, as function of strain imposed during processing and hence helps establish structure-property relationship using lesser number of samples.
