Abstract
The effect of the shortening under linear friction welding on the microstructure in the welding zone of two-phase titanium alloys VT6 and VT8M-1 was investigated. It was found that shortening under linear friction welding determines the quality of welded joints. Linear friction welding with shortening 0,4 mm does not provide quality of the welded joint receiving, resulting to the failure in the joint place under a tensile test. For the compression value 1,4 mm and more a failure occurs in the base metal.
